The 1903-04 season gave the Club a promising squad and due to their hard and combining team work, quick and short passing, Newcastle united went on to dominate English football for a decade. After his retirement, Peter McWilliam, the team's defender at the time, said "The Newcastle team of the 1900s would give any modern side a two goal start and beat them, and furthermore, beat them at a trot."
Newcastle won the League on three occasions during the 1900s; 1904–05, 1906–07 and 1908–09. 1904–05, they nearly did the double, losing to Aston Villa in the 1905 FA Cup Final. IN 1906,they were again beaten by Everton in FA Cup Final. But in 1908, they again reached in the final and lost against Wolves. Newcastle finally won in 1910 against Barnsley in the final. In the following year, they also were beaten by Bradford City in the final.
In 1924, Newcastle united returned to the FA Cup final which was played at Wembley Stadium and they got victory against Aston Villa, winning the club's second FA Cup. After three years they won the First Division championship a fourth time in 1926–27, with Hughie Gallacher, one of the most prolific goal scorers in the club's history, captaining the team.

Newcastle United had to face relegation in 1930, and at the end of the season Gallacher left the club for Chelsea, and at the same time Andy Cunningham became the club's first ever team manager. But after a couple of years later, at the end of the 1933–34 season, the team were relegated to the Second Division after 35 seasons in the top . Cunningham left as manager and Tom Mather took over.
The 2010–11 season marked the return of Newcastle United to the Premier League Championship with a finish in 12th place. They were 3rd in FA Cup and 4th in League Cup.
