Even there was only one senior club to support, the development of the Newcastle United was much more rapid, despite a refuse from Football League First Division at the early 1892-93 season, so they were to play in Second Division with no big names turned down the offer and remained in the Northern League, "gates would not meet the heavy expenses incurred for travelling". For getting larger crowds Newcastle East End decided to rename their Club as Newcastle United among the suggested names Newcastle F.C., Newcastle Rangers, Newcastle City and City of Newcastle, to signify the unification of the two teams.
The new recognition was accepted by the Football Association on the 22 December, but until September 6th 1895 , the new name was not legally constituted as Newcastle United Football Club Co. Ltd. It was the start of 1893–94 season, that Newcastle United were again to play in the Second Division along with Woolwich Arsenal and Liverpool. They played their first competitive match in that division in September against Woolwich Arsenal, resulted a draw matches with score 2-2.
